Developing core strength and stability enables athletes to maximize their power output and perform complex athletic movements that require coordination, balance, and technical skills. Additionally, focusing on core strength can help athletes stabilize other weak areas to reduce the risk of injury.

Increased Control

Clean, quality movement is governed by structural efficiency and postural control. When we have a stable hip and core, we are well on our way towards better performance and lower exposure to back injury.

Less Fatigue

With a strong core, and in turn more stabilized movements, you allow your other muscles to focus on the intended movement for each exercise. This avoids any overcompensation creating increased fatigue.

Higher Output of Power

With stabilized movements and decreased overall fatigue, your body is able to generate even more power. Your core functions primarily to absorb, redirect and transfer forces throughout the body, effectively transferring energy instead of generating it.

So, how does this transfer into athletic performance?

Let’s use long distance running as an example. A repetitive activity, an athlete displaying poor postural control and core stability will fatigue faster as an event goes on. Lack of core strength and stability is inefficient and leads to sub-optimal athletic performance. The same can be said for cross country skiing, rowing, swimming or any other endurance event.

By focusing on strengthening your abdominal muscles, you’ll be able to perform at a higher quality in bande classes, focusing on increased performance and overall endurance.
