When it comes to working out, we typically attribute performance improvement to what we do and how often we do it. But what about after class?

Exercise for me is all about functional movement - combatting the effects of sitting in front of a computer all day and ensuring I can keep up with my kids and that I don’t injure myself doing something stupid like taking my 3-year-old out of his car seat. I’m a trained pilates instructor and get really excited about how the human body functions and how all of our muscles, ligaments and bones work together to help us move around (I know that’s not everyone) - as a result it’s also really apparent to me when things are out of whack and I’m not taking care of myself - I feel aches and pains and notice it in my posture.
The types of workouts I’m doing vary with my work schedule, how active I am throughout the day and my emotional state. When I have a crazy work week and I’m sitting all day, strength training or high intensity cardio feels really good, but other times I crave yoga. Whatever I’m doing, a workout is emotionally critical for me. As a mom and founder of a business, my hour of exercise is most often the only me-time I get in a day, when I have to put my phone down, forget about everything else for a moment and connect with my body – and I truly love it. When I get a good workout in I am quite literally a different person: less anxious, more balanced, positive, everything falls into place.

Simply put, my why is pasta. As someone who enjoys food more than life itself, I train to stay in shape while indulging in all my favorite things. I try to workout three to five times a week early in the morning while my toddler is still asleep, as it's the only time of the day that is truly for me - it helps me maintain focus for the work day ahead and have more restful sleep at night.
I train to be strong. Being a mother, a business owner, a wife, a friend, and a human is hard work. I wouldn't be able to do any of them or ALL OF THEM! without strength. Training brings me stamina, mental strength, confidence, a sense of center, and SO MUCH happiness.

Founder, Goldie Home
“My 'regular' workouts are everything to me and are definitely the 'fuel' I need and depend on. With my brand, Goldie Home, it's imperative that I stay super productive, pro-active, positive, nimble, and continue to be inspired each and every day. My 'workout' every morning makes me feel centered, alive, and productive to kick off more productivity and good things to come. A really good workout sometimes gives me a sense of invincibility that is so empowering when it comes to work. I have also found that sometimes my best ideas for work come to me during exercising. I am kind of addicted and I wouldn't have it any other way!”
Exercising brings out the very best in me in all aspects of my life. Just as we can't live without oxygen, I can't perform at my best without my weekly workout routine. Challenging my body and mind and pushing myself to new heights empowers me in all that I do. When I finish a killer workout in the morning, I feel on top of the world and like a true warrior goddess who can tackle anything. I carry this empowerment into my day at work, into my relationships, and into whatever task or decision lies ahead. In the words of Glennon Doyle, "We can do hard things". I believe that having a regular workout routine helps us prove to ourselves that yes, we can absolutely do hard things. When we push through fatigue and pain; when we get that one extra rep in; when we run that extra .5 miles; when we graduate from 10 lbs. to 15 lbs. on our bicep curl... we show up for ourselves and reveal our true power.

Why I train: Staying active is in my DNA, and committing to a fitness goal creates some structure within the always-on (and unpredictable) lifestyle of working and living in NYC. Feeling strong also goes hand in hand with feeling successful, and empowers me to be the best version of myself at work and at home - or at least aspire to be!
