Equipment Recommendations to Enhance Your At-Home Gym

Building a gym at home just got easier. Check out this list of equipment to make all your home fitness classes 10x better and elevate your bande experience

While bande classes don't require equipment, instructors may introduce a few pieces to help optimize your workout. Our instructors and staff swear by the following pieces (thank you, Amazon!) to build up your at-home studio and give your workouts extra intensity.

Resistance bands

Resistance bands are a great addition to any home gym. They provide external resistance that your muscles have to work against, and a multi-pack lets you adjust the level of intensity to particular exercises and how you’re feeling. They are inexpensive, compact and extremely versatile.

Founding instructor Amanda Jenny recommends the Fit Simplify Resistance Loop Exercise Bands, Set of 5, 10-inch ($9.95).

Whether you want to try a Slide & Glide class or are eager to give your movements some extra friction, gliders are a great choice. Select gliders based on your floor type (i.e. hardwood versus carpet) and get ready to glide into a great new way to get fit. Amanda Jenny recommends the following:

For hardwood: SKLZ Slidez Dual-Sided Exercise Glider Discs ($27.99)

SKLZ Slidez Dual Sided Glider Discs

For carpet: Elite Sportz Equipment Core Exercise Sliders ($8.97)

Yoga Mats

A yoga mat is a must. This de rigueur piece of equipment prevents slipping and provides a canvas for your workout. Chief Product Officer Amaya Weddle loves the Manduka brand.  "I've had cheaper brands that fell apart after a few years and tended to slip around on the floor. My Manduka was definitely worth the extra investment; it's heavier and more stable. Plus, I got mine in a gorgeous metallic gold color."  Here are a couple great mat options at different price points:

Splurge: Manduka PRO Yoga and Pilates Mat Premium 6mm ($120)

Many bande classes call for light or heavy weights. While canned goods and household items may suffice, it's wise to stock your space with two weight options. Amanda Jenny loves these dumbbells from AmazonBasics (left). They are reasonably priced and are available in a larger set that includes a stand. If you're looking for a chic upgrade, instructor Andrea Saty recommends Bala Bars (right).

Ankle Weights

A pair of ankle weights can be used to enhance any arm or leg exercise by adding a little bit of resistance. Andrea loves Bala Bangles ($55). "Bala Bangles are so versatile. You can wear them on your ankles for lower body resistance or on your wrists for the upper body. The Velcro fastening gives you freedom to move around and not have to worry about holding dumbbells. They're perfect for my cardio dance classes!"

Foam Rollers

A great recovery routine is key to keeping your body safe from injury. bande yoga instructor Ariel Mann recommends a foam roller to roll out muscles post-class. "I love this foam roller," Ariel said. "The texture takes it up a notch, helps warm up the body, ease soreness and just generally feels/hurts so good to use." This TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller is available in six colors ($26.21 - $34.99).

Laptop Stand

At bande, personalized coaching is a hallmark of our experience. In order for instructors to provide feedback on form and successfully lead you through poses, they need to see you. The key: a laptop stand that offers great camera angles and offers optimal flexibility for laptop placement. Amanda Jenny recommends the Pro DJ Laptop, Projector Stand ($38.17). "I love the laptop stand because it’s super easy to adjust to the height that works best for my space. No more stacking random books to get the perfect height. This baby is sturdy and reliable. It folds up super easily and tucks away nicely in the corner when I’m not using it."

Water Bottle

Staying hydrated before, during and after your workout is key to making sure your body can perform well in class. Director of Social Media and Community Rachael Kester recommends investing in a great water bottle. If you invest in your water bottle, you're less likely to lose it, and more like to keep it close by all day. Rachael loves the Hydro Flask Water Bottle - Wide Mouth Straw Lid (starting at $41.21). It is dishwasher safe, comes in a variety of colors and keeps cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot for hours.
